PENANG MCA has raised doubts about the sincerity of the state in implementing the Penang Transport Master Plan (PTMP).

Its organising secretary Dr Tan Chuan Hong said the master plan could just be a move to fish for votes during the next general election.

“Before GE13, the DAP-led state government also proposed an undersea tunnel project,” Dr Tan told a press conference at a restaurant in Jalan Raja Uda in Butterworth yesterday.

“Reclamation works had even been carried out by a developer.

“But until now, there is no undersea tunnel or a third Penang bridge.

“Eventually, those who benefit will be the developers.”

Dr Tan also questioned if the state government’s plan to borrow money from a foreign bank was to implement the PTMP.

Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng recently announced that the state was considering a loan from China Exim Bank primarily for the funding of the investment and implementation of physical development, economic and social programmes of the state, including the PTMP and related projects.

Dr Tan, who is also Bagan MCA division secretary, also criticised the state for failing to complete the road-widening project in Jalan Raja Uda which started when DAP took over the state in 2008.

“Traders have been complaining of insufficient parking space for their customers because of the project.

“They also say the contractor is ignoring safety measures,” he said.
