Inspiring a generation of Loving, Caring & Sharing Malaysians - Launch of Lets GoCare Charity Photography Contest cum Photography Exhibition draws attention to animal welfare & autism

MCA HQ, 17 Nov – The Crisis Relief Squad of MCA (CRSM) is well known for its immediate response towards relief works when natural disasters namely floods strike. In addition to that, CRSM has established itself as a charity fundraiser. Since GoCare Crowdfuding for Charity was set up by CRSM in 2016, beneficiaries in the past ranging from underprivileged homes, Orang Asli communities, natural disaster post-reconstruction, cancer and disabled support groups, NGOs and heaps others have received more than RM580,000 from funds raised by GoCare crowdfunding.

In a departure from the norm, CRSM this morning launched a GoCare Charity Photography cause with its main beneficiaries being concerned with animal welfare, ie Malaysian Nature Society, and PAWS Animal Welfare Society. Additionally, the National Autism Society is the third beneficiary of this Photography Contest.

It is hoped that this GoCare Photography Contest and Exhibition will raise awareness on animal welfare and autism, whilst inspiring a more caring and sharing society, particularly amongst youngsters who commonly use their handphone to snap selfies.

Speaking to reporters after the launch, MCA Headquarters’ very own Head of Public Services and Complaints Department Dato’ Seri Michael Chong who is also the Adviser of Persatuan Fotografi Selangor dan Kuala Lumpur agreed that such photography contests will encourage charity.

Drawing an analogy between life and photography, Dato’ Sri Michael Chong explained that “taking photographs is like life. We aim for something and catch it. If we find that (what we caught) is no good, we remove and take (the aim) again.”

Dato’ Seri Michael Chong also recalled his life as a stringer for newspapers where he would capture photographs and author the related articles.

Giving a boost to members of the photography association, Dato’ Seri Michael Chong also urged shutterbugs to develop photos into hard copies. “Now everyone takes pictures and keep them in the handphone. We worry it is not safe as the handphone maybe hit by virus,” he explained before adding that “going to print the photos is safer because it also gives business to our members.”

Themed “Loving, Caring, Sharing Malaysia”, GoCare will donate RM1 for each photo uploaded. Donations by members of the public maybe made through www.gocare.org.my. Do visit the official Facebook page #Letsgocare for more details.

Representatives present at the launch were Mr Ng Wei Lee, President of Persatuan Fotografi Selangor dan Kuala Lumpur; Mr I.S Shanmugaraj, Executive Director of Malaysian Nature Society, Ms Leong Chia Ern from PAWS; Dato’ Chuah Chong Wah – National Autism Society of Malaysia (NASOM). The supporting partners for this photography contest are UTAR Photography Club represented by its Vice President Jayden Sue Hun Hong and TAR UC Photography Club represented by its Student Affair committee member Mr Nyia.

Sponsors for this Photography Contest are TC of TC Sdn Bhd, Inpeak Enterprise (FIVET) and Aforadio. The venue sponsor where the exhibitions will be held is Mytown Shopping Centre.

Given MCA's wide networking channels, the team up with NGOs indicates that our party also pursues causes which benefit non-profit organisations. MCA does not limit our services to government policies, but complements the activities and outreach of NGOs and given our party's standing, draws attention to the plight of their causes.
