(Serdang, 30 July) :  After a site visit to the Public-Private Partnership Covid-19 Industry Immunisation Programme (PIKAS) vaccination centre (PPV) at Wisma Huazong, Deputy Minister of International Trade and Industry Datuk Lim Ban Hong called upon the manufacturing sector in the Klang Valley to actively participate in Operation Surge Capacity as part of the government’s National Covid 19 Immunisation Programme (NIP) to mitigate the pandemic situation in the Klang Valley.

Accompanying Datuk Lim at the site visit were MCA Puchong Chairman Dato’ Liew Yuen Keong who is also the Chairman of SJKC Bukit Serdang, MCA Central Committee member Lau Chin Kok, and Huazhong Deputy Secretary General Yong Yew Wei and Committee member Dato’ Ng Chin Heng.

The key attributes of PIKAS PPVs across the country such as the allocation of human resources, arrangement procedures, venue facilities and logistics services are already on track. The government will continue to ensure a stable supply of vaccines, accelerate the NIP to enable herd immunity in Malaysia to continue to increase.

The detailed explanation and analysis on the pandemic situation by Coordinating Minister for NIP Khairy Jamaluddin during the recent Dewan Rakyat session, as well as efforts by the government to fight the infectious disease were unanimously affirmed by lawmakers from both the ruling and opposition parties. Efforts by the Special Committee on Ensuring Access to Vaccine Supply (JKJAV) have undoubtedly injected a booster to the government’s inoculation drive.

At a time when the nationwide pandemic is severe, the Klang Valley is the economic locomotive of Malaysia with population density and the location of many manufacturers.  Vaccinations in the Klang Valley must be accelerated with Operation Surge Capacity to strengthen and achieve herd immunity. Only after the immunisation coverage rate is expanded and has reached a certain percentage, will the pandemic situation in the Klang Valley ease leading to an improvement in the country’s situation. Based on the current progress, all adults in the Klang Valley would have at least been jabbed with the first vaccine dose by 1 August.

Responding to questions, Dato’ Liew informed that the PPV can administer up to 2,000 shots a day. Small and medium-sized manufacturing enterprises in Puchong and Serdang are  urged to register for PIKAS as soon as possible, so that employees can be inoculated to speed up the reduction of cases in the Klang Valley and resuscitate the economy.

According to data on PIKAS, as of July 29, a total of 19,114 companies and 1,365,975 employees across the country have registered for PIKAS, of which 5,494 companies and 325,684 employees are located in Selangor; A total of 438,063 employees have been vaccinated nationwide under the PIKAS.  Among them, 93,873 are in Selangor; 50,841 employees have received the second dose of vaccine nationwide, and Selangor accounted for 10,640 of them. There are currently 51 PIKAS PPVs nationwide, whereby 12 are located in Selangor.

Manufacturing companies may register for PIKAS online at http://pikas.miti.gov.my.
