Press statement regarding my opponent's allegation of corruption in the VEP PROJECT

The police reports made against me alleging corruption in the VEP project is a very obvious politically motivated act by my opponents in the by-election.

This is similar to what took place in the Rantau by-election earlier where police reports were made against the winning BN candidate Dato' Seri Mohamad Hasan alleging corruption on a purchase of an apartment overseas.

When the Rantau by-election was completed, MACC subsequently cleared him and his opponents stopped raising this allegation as an issue.

Please bear in mind that these allegations made against me on this VEP project are not new and the Parliamentary Public Accounts Committee has already held 3 hearings since March of this year.

Many of the allegations currently being spread are also incorrect and these are already answered in the 2017 Auditor General Report.

For example, the claim that the winning company only had RM35 in the bank account is wrong as the AG Report said the company had proven they had more than RM3 million of funding which surpasses the minimum required amount.

The claims that the operating expenses have been hugely inflated is also wrong as this was due to a significant increase in scope including a more than doubling of capacity in several requirements.

These are all in the 2017 AG Report.

I note that the Audit Report had also reported that the project had collected more than RM177 million revenue for the government in entry fees since it was implemented in 2016 up to June 2018.

For avoidance of doubt, I was never a director in the company and I am no longer a shareholder in the company.

I have never been involved in any abuse of power and the misappropriation of public funds and I am confident that the PAC and the police will eventually clear my name.

I urge my opponents in this by-election to fight fairly based on ideas, policies and our commitment to the Rakyat.

All parties should stop engaging in dirty tactics and refocus our efforts to what counts most: Serving the people.
