MCA Youth welcomes affordable “Keluarga Malaysia Menu” for campus students

MCA Youth commends the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) for swiftly addressing the concerns of students and families regarding the effects of rising cost of living for students undertaking their tertiary studies.

On 4 July 2022, MOHE announced that a six-month moratorium on rent has been granted to food stall operators at public colleges and universities. Also announced by MOHE was the Keluarga Malaysia Menu – a quality food menu at a ceiling price of RM3.50 for each order under the Keluarga Malaysia Student Food Basket initiative.

MCA Youth hopes that these efforts will be helpful in alleviating the financial burdens of students and allow them to continue their studies undistracted. We also urge the relevant authorities to ensure that the meals prepared by operators provide a balanced diet and nutrition without a lack in quality even at the price of RM3.50.

Students at this phase do not have a consistent source of income, and any burden on them will directly be felt by the family, especially affecting B40 families. Thus, we hope that MOHE will implement these initiatives as soon as possible to help both students and canteen operators.

We hope that irresponsible parties will not politicise the globally-experienced issue of inflation and price hikes, because there are many factors which are beyond our control. Instead, all quartres should consolidate our resources and our minds to help each other out, in the spirit of Keluarga Malaysia.

MCA Youth and MCA Kelab Siswa will continue to play our role as the intermediary between the government and the youths, to ensure that the next generation’s welfare is well-protected.
