Will a Chinese tsunami befall DAP & Pakatan Harapan?
The turnout for the much awaited “Himpunan Hapus Kleptocracy” was dismal judging by the standard of previous years. At the peak of Bersih rally back in 2012, we could see hundreds upon hundreds of people in the thousands clawing their way on the streets to voice their dissent against the administration of Dato’ Sri Najib bin Tun Abdul Razak. However the numbers kept on dwindling each year and last year the anti-GST rally turnout was so poor that the organiser did not bother to organise another rally this year.
While the turnout was inevitability poor last Saturday night numbering to about 10,000 people, what most of us missed the point was both Selangor Menter BEsar Dato’ Seri Azmin Ali and PKR Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli were not there to lend support. What are the reasons for both of them to be absent? Is there the possibility that cracks are emerging in Pakatan Harapan leading to these two juggernaut PKR figures skipping the rally?
While the Malays did not come out in droves to support the rally, the same can be said of the Chinese attendance. The low turnout of the Chinese - could it be attributed that they are aghast at the cooperation between Lim Kit Siang and Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad? In the last three decades, the former kept saying that Malaysia will go bankrupt under the latter’s leadership and now Tun Dr Mahathir is the anointed one by PH to save Malaysia from bankruptcy? Such an equation is just too difficult to understand and comprehend even to the best of scholars.
Let us not forget too it was the former who wrote a book and numerous articles that detailed down the latter’s wrongdoing in the Bank Negara Malaysia forex scandal in the 1990s, and now they seem to be the best of friends putting aside such serious accusations at each other.
Is it because of this, the Chinese shied away from attending the rally by protesting in silence? Will a Chinese tsunami befall DAP/PH given the current scenario just like how the Chinese voters punished both the late Karpal Singh and Lim Kit Siang in 1999 due to the Chinese disenchantment with DAP entering into a political pact with the theocratic PAS for the general elections and now with PPBM? Even DAP members back in April 2017 had spoken out. If Karpal Singh were still, he would not have agreed to DAP's collaboration with Dr Mahathir, under whom he was detained under the ISA.
Will a Chinese’s tsunami hit back at DAP/PH in the next general election? The writing is on the wall.
