Press statement by MCA on “Himpunan Penyatuan Ummah” (Ummah Unity Gathering)

【1】

The MCA will consent and respect any collaboration between any opposition parties in Malaysia, as long as it is in line with the Federal Constitution, and to uphold the values of multiculturalism and moderation.

The collaboration between opposition parties, especially for Umno and PAS to form a pact, is inevitable.

MCA insists that for Barisan Nasional component party members to seek collaboration with other non-component party members, they must respect the principle of consensus, the value of multiculturalism and the Federal Constitution.

In view of this, before the signing of a charter and a memorandum of understanding, Umno has already had a long discussion with the leaders of MCA and MIC.

Umno has agreed that the “Himpunan Penyatuan Ummah” (Ummah Unity Gathering) is to reach out to all races and we have reached a consensus of not violating the moderation spirit promoted by Barisan Nasional.

As what Umno secretary-general Tan Sri Annuar Musa has said, Umno and PAS are organizing “Himpunan Penyatuan Ummah” (Ummah Unity Gathering) with identities in different coalitions.

MCA has been invited to witness the signing of the chapter and the memorandum of understanding and we will send representatives for the event.

This is to display the spirit of Barisan Nasional and to ensure that the gathering will strictly observe the values of multiculturalism and moderation.
