4-day water cut: Air Selangor management & Selangor Pakatan Exco should go without salaries for 4 days

MCA Selangor proposes that the management of Air Selangor as well as the entire Selangor Pakatan Exco go without salaries for the 4 days to be able to feel a pinch of the pains of the Selangor and Klang Valley private sector who through no fault of theirs will be disabled from earning  a single sen in the 4-day water shutdown.

The Selangor MB is also advised to advise his spouse to forego a one-day dip in the official swimming pool in solidarity with Selangor and Klang Valley residents waiting in queue under the hot sun to fill their pails from the water tankers or the generous supply of 18 Public Water Taps.

The scheduled water cuts as announced by Air Selangor which will affect 998 areas in the Petaling, Klang/Shah Alam, Gombak, Kuala Lumpur, Hulu Selangor, Kuala Langat and Kuala Selangor regions starting from 9:00 am, 13 October 2021 and is expected to last until 9:00 pm, 16 October 2021 could not have come at a worse timing.

With the announcement that interstate travel is now permissible effective 11 October 2021, this is a crucial time to boost our state’s and nation’s economic recovery.

However, not only will dry taps inconvenienced residents (bearing in mind that not every employee has returned to offices or regular work premises to work, whilst online classes are still being held as students will return to classes in rotation), the commercial sector will be terribly affected.

Industries which are heavily dependent on water will be terribly hit. Particularly, factories in the manufacturing and production sectors, eateries, hair-dressing salons, laundry shops, shoplot clinics or dental practices will have to either scale down or shut completely, thereby incurring financial losses.

The alternative option is to incur additional expenses to purchase water from four local water filling stations which Air Selangor will make available for them with the caveat that they collect the purchased water supply using their own water tankers and make payment at any of the 10 Air Selangor Customer Service Counters.

No doubt Covid-19 positive cases have indicated a decline in last week, the figures are still staggering, climbing three days consecutively to 7,950 on 13 October 2021. These 4-digit figures are still miles away from 3-digits. SOPs must be upheld as would hygiene. Disinfection exercises which must be regularly conducted at any premises, more so if a confirmed positive Covid-19 case has been detected – all of these require water

Moreover, the weather forecast for the Klang Valley from Wednesday to Friday indicates mostly sunny temperature averaging 34°C. Hence, there will be a need to keep hydrated, and hence, drinking water will be needed more than usual.

Has the Pakatan Selangor state government no compassion for residents, especially the elderly or disabled residing at walk-up low-cost flats?
