Heng to Perak MB: Suspend accused Exco pending police probe to uphold credibility & transparency of police investigation

The DAP Perak Exco arrested to assist in investigations of having sexually assaulting his Indonesian domestic helper should either go leave or be suspended by the Menteri Besar of Perak pending full investigation. This is in the interest of the public as well as to ensure the independence and impartiality of the police, Attorney-General’s Chambers.

As this is a criminal case and DAP Perak Chairman Nga  Kor Ming in a statement had acceded that “this is a very serious allegation … the party is of the view that no one is above the law and as such will leave it to the authorities to conduct a full investigation,” the Perak MB should thus take action of suspending the accused from his duties temporarily.

The police must be praised for executing their duties without fear or favour by swiftly arresting the accused. After all, this is a serious crime. In particular, the suspect is a second term elected representative who has been appointed as a state Exco.

The Exco’s representative had informed that his client had taken the initiative to surrender himself at the police station on the night of 9 April 2019 to record his statement. The process took less than one hour and he was released at 10pm the same evening.

Nevertheless, herein lays a contradiction between his lawyer and the police. The police confirmed having arrested the suspect as opposed to the suspect recording his statement at the police station.

So, who is lying ?

In any case, the most important thing is that justice must not only be done, but be seen to be done, and the truth must be restored, because the rakyat have the right to know the truth. The Pakatan Harapan state and federal governments and DAP shoulder the responsibility of clarifying details of this matter in all transparency.

Lies cannot be covered up for too long. It is hoped the police can uncover the truth as soon as possible. After all, if there are any compromises on this case, not only is the image of the Perak state government affected but also Malaysia’s globally.
