Respect Health Ministry’s anti-pandemic professionalism; State govts should not politicise issues

With Covid-19 raging, people should set aside their political differences and come together to fight a common war ie the pandemic. Only when the pandemic has been overcome may people’s lives and economy gradually improve.

The professionalism and spirit of public service by Health Ministry (MoH) Director General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham must be lauded and recognised. All walks of life should respect his professionalism and adhere to the directives by MoH to keep the pandemic under control and liberate our nation from the coronavirus threat soonest possible.

Since the outbreak of the pandemic and working at the forefront in leading his colleagues and especially health workers at the frontlines, his professional work ethics and attitude transcend politics and are completely independent of any political alignment. Irrespective by whichever political coalition in power, he works diligently to get the job done. Malaysia achieved positive results during the first wave of the pandemic, and Dr Noor Hisham’s efficiency and professionalism are recognised globally.

It cannot denied that it will not be a simple path for the economy to fully recover. The Prime Minister has also said that for now, the Movement Control Order will not be implemented. In wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, balancing between safeguarding the rakyat’s health and maintaining economic development indeed poses a huge challenge.

Consonant with Dr Noor Hisham’s call that everyone must do their part, stringently abide with the SOPs and take preventive measures to prevent yellow zones from descending into red zones.

Now that the third wave is around, all walks of life are responsible. It is our hopes that with frontliners working extended hours and placing their lives at risk for us, politicians should speak less but help more. Do not create problems and troubles and do not embarrass the MoH by trying to politicise health or its efforts to combat the outbreak.

All quarters, politicians included are urged to respect the expertise and directives by Dr Noor Hisham and the MoH. Irrespective if the state or federal government is ruled by either Perikatan Nasional or Pakatan Harapan, the pandemic impacts beyond politics. Let us all join hands to  fight this contagion.
