Press statement by Wanita MCA National Chairperson Datuk Heng Seai Kie
Stop all rumour mongering on family which responsibly self-enforced home-quarantine

Wanita MCA urges all quartres to cease speculating against a family from Pusing, Batu Gajah, Perak who was in close contact with the 39th novel coronavirus (Covid-19) case in Singapore.
Our women’s wing is saddened that a family which has practised ethics to exercise the 14-days self- quarantine has been subjected to verbal hostilities from fellow villagers and social media as reported in newspapers and online news, more so, when diagnosis revealed that not a single one among the four family members have been infected.
Such false accusations and stigmatisation are akin to bullying, bigotry and must halt immediately.
On the contrary, the family should be praised for taking the responsibility to isolate themselves to prevent any possible spread of the epidemic.
Teachers of the family’s school-going daughter should teach and remind their fellow classmates that the girl has not tested positive, thus indicating she is not infected. The educators should stress that the classmates should continue their friendships and not distance themselves out of baseless fear.
Nobody desires to be afflicted with Covid-19. While Malaysia has recorded 19 cases of Covid-19, involving 13 Chinese citizens and six Malaysians, three of the patients have already been discharged following their recovery. So a glimmer of hope hovers over.
For this Valentine’s Day, let us show love, support and solidarity for their victims, their next-of-kin and friends who have been infected by this outbreak or affected in one way or another, e.g. loss of trade and business income.
In the same vein, Wanita MCA also urges Putrajaya to quickly come out with an economic stimulus package to boost the sagging economy which will further slump when more and more tourists drop Malaysia as a holiday destination and when the trickledown effect blankets all other sectors.
