As of yesterday, 28 November, the unusually heavy monsoon rainfall recorded this past week has caused significant flooding across several low-lying areas in Terengganu. In response, MCA Terrengganu has fully activated and dispatched its disaster relief mechanisms and deployed ground teams to affected locations to assess the needs of victims and provide them with immediate assistance.

Yesterday, MCA Terengganu State Liaison Committee led a relief team to Cherong Lanjut in Kuala Terengganu. The accompanying team consisted of people from different divisions, including Kuala Terengganu Division Chairperson Siew Chee Yong, Secretary Ng Phei Jin, Kampung Cina JPKKP Chairman Tan Chew Tiong, Public Complaints Bureau Chief Marcus Ow, Beliawanis Chief Kho Siew Ying, Wanita MCA Terrenganu Secretary Joanne Tan Ai Yien, Wanita MCA Terrenganu Committee Member Dr Grace Lim, and Beliawanis State Committee Member Peggy Yong, along with other state committee members.

With a clear objective of understanding real on-the-ground needs and ensuring that assistance reached affected households accurately and promptly, the team delivered food supplies and essential items to the families, while also engaging directly with residents to provide immediate support.

Despite the ongoing rain, our team entered the affected area to meet residents and deliver food supplies to those impacted. It is crucial that assistance remains prompt, accurate, and targeted. MCA will continue ensuring that no flood victim is left without support.

Meanwhile in Kemaman, a volunteer team led by Crisis Relief Squad of MCA (CRSM) Coordinator Steven Poh, visited two temporary evacuation centres: PPS Sekolah Kebangsaan Sultan Ismail and PPS Darul Iman Training Centre in DUN Kijal, distributing aid and conducting wellbeing checks on evacuees.

Based on information gathered by volunteers, the PPS at SK Sultan Ismail currently houses 27 families with a total of 117 evacuees, while the PPS in Telok Kalong accommodates 49 families with a total of 264 individuals.

With increasingly unpredictable weather patterns linked to climate change, MCA reminds residents to remain cautious, monitor official weather alerts, and make early preparations. Households in flood-prone areas are advised to secure important documents and belongings, and immediately move to higher ground or designated evacuation centres if water levels begin to rise.

According to the latest official update at 8.00am today, the flood situation continues to deteriorate. A total of 3,055 households involving 10,469 evacuees statewide have been relocated to 126 temporary evacuation centres PPS across eight districts in Terengganu. The scale and severity of the disaster require coordinated response and continuous community support.

MCA Terengganu will continue to actively monitor the situation. All eight MCA divisions in the state remain on standby to coordinate relief assistance, mobilise volunteers, and support affected communities throughout the monsoon season.

MCA stands together with the flood victims and remains committed to supporting them during this challenging period.
