The public needs to exercise vigilance in view of the spike in tuberculosis (TB) cases across the country.

Although the disease does not spread as rapidly as COVID-19, precautionary measures must be prioritised to prevent the situation from becoming more serious.

In line with medical experts’ recommendations, the public is advised to not panic and to continue with their daily lives as usual while practising proper health care measures.

We must all take good care of our health. If anyone feels unwell, experiences a prolonged cough lasting more than two weeks, evening fever, night sweats, or fatigue, please see a doctor immediately for treatment. Do not worry, TB can be treated.

My thoughts are with patients currently undergoing treatment will be granted a full recovery and that Malaysians will continue to remain in good health.

On 21 February 2026, the media reported that a total of 3,161 TB cases were recorded nationwide, including 596 new infections. Sabah recorded the highest number with 755 cases (23.88 per cent of the total), followed by Selangor with 596 cases (18.85 per cent) and Sarawak with 332 cases (10.50 per cent).
