KUALA LUMPUR: The alliance between Umno and PAS is their business and has nothing to do with MCA, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.The MCA deputy president was responding to a question by the media on the cooperation between the Islamist party and Umno. Both Umno and MCA are component parties in Barisan Nasional, along with the MIC.
"This has nothing to do with MCA, and now my objective is to rebuild MCA and we are now going through change."Our priority is in our party. If other parties want to work with each other, that's up to them.
"For me, what's important is that it doesn't threaten MCA's stance. If something involves us, then we are free to voice out," said Dr Wee when met at the Parliament lobby on Tuesday (Oct 16).
Dr Wee, who is also Ayer Hitam MP, said MCA had its own stand and had its own unadulterated views and stance.
"We will continue to fight for moderation. Our stand is clear. Whatever we don't agree with, we will be straightforward about it," he said.
MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai had said that any alliance or cooperation between Umno and other parties must not go against the Barisan spirit of multiracialism, moderation and power-sharing.
Meanwhile, Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had prior to this stressed that the ongoing cooperation between Umno and PAS was not headed for a formal collaboration or a new coalition and that the parties were only working together on certain issues.
