Press Statement by MCA Central Committee Member cum Wanita MCA Secretary-General Senator Datuk Ong Chong Swen

Pakatan’s guarantee has no surety; the masses will not be fooled again

Following Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng’s violation of guarantee, I would like advise the Pakatan Ministers against making any more guarantees on the third national car project, as the Pakatan guarantee is not worthy of people’s trust!

I feel the ‘‘guarantee’’ made by Entrepreneur Development Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Redzuan bin Md Yusof that no public funds will be used by the government to bail out the third national car project, should it fail in the future, is ridiculous.

Looking back at previous records, it can be seen that Pakatan leaders including Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohammad, Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng, Deputy Minister of International Trade and Industry Dr Ong Kian Ming have made ‘‘guarantees’’ numerous times on the third national car issue. However, none of those can be trusted and the people did not take it seriously.

On August 13 last year, Lim Guan Eng had vowed with a ‘‘guarantee’’ that the third national car project will never use any public funds! But soon after, Lim Guan Eng was forced to score his own goal when an announcement was made on January 7 this year by Entrepreneur Development Minister that the government had approved RM20 million in funds to attract private companies’ investments on the development of a prototype for the third national car!

Lim Guan Eng has earlier assured that no public funds will be used, which turned out to be fooling the people.

Now that another ‘‘guarantee’’ is made that no public funds will be used to bail out third national car if there is any mishap, I can only advise the people to see for themselves the true colours of Pakatan. Will the people be fooled again with more guarantees?

The people are now worried that Tun Dr Mahathir will repeat the same mistake, like implementing protective policies on Proton in the past, and vehicle Approved Permit (AP) to restrict foreign car imports in support of the national car. This will only relive the nightmare of people being forced to buy a national car which buyers have complained over its quality, and pay for Pakatan’s protectionist policies for the national car!
