KUALA LUMPUR: She came in hoping to make an honest living but instead was sweet-talked out of her family’s savings.

She lost a total of RM56,000 – money that was set aside for her mother’s cancer treatment.

In relating her predicament, the victim, who wished to be known only as Leong, initially took up a job as an admin clerk in Semenyih after answering an advert from a furniture company.

“The interview was very fast. I just need to fill up a form and come to work the very next day,” she told a press conference organised by MCA Public Services and Complaints Department head Datuk Seri Michael Chong yesterday.

Leong, 24, said everything went smoothly until her boss started getting close to her.
Cheated: Chong speaking at the press conference with the victim.

“She would talk to me often, asking me to loan her some money to help run the business,” she said.

Leong claimed that she finally agreed after “falling under a spell”. Within the same month, she made three transactions to her boss.

Leong only realised she was cheated on April 29, when her boss went missing.

“My two other colleagues were also duped in the same manner. One of them even borrowed money from loan sharks,” she said.

A police report was lodged on May 17. Chong urged job seekers to be more careful to avoid getting cheated.
