GEORGE TOWN: Despite having differences in the political arena, Wanita MCA chief Datuk Heng Seai Kie has stood up for Seri Delima assemblyman Syerleena Abdul Rashid who is a victim of a death threat.

Heng said death threats and murder calls must not be tolerated in Malaysia and she will not sit down and say nothing while another woman is being terrorised with death.

“It really shocks and angers me to think that a gutless coward who threatened the life of a woman via mail is now being backed by a bunch of depraved sociopaths on social media.

“Such viciousness on the Internet needs to be investigated by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission and the police in a swift, decisive manner,” she said in a statement yesterday.

She said the perpetrator who sent the death threat has to be identified, as well as the distasteful individuals who took part in the “murder call”.

She said those people have to be brought to justice and it must be made apparent that such revolting behaviour will not be tolerated in the country.

“In the meantime, I implore the police to provide the best possible protection to Syerleena until such a time the sociopaths are apprehended. Her safety must be prioritised so that she can carry out her tasks as Seri Delima assemblyman to the fullest without subjugating to intimidation.

“To the sociopaths who dared call for the death of a fellow Malaysian, I must inform you that a person is allowed to not share your viewpoints in Malaysia, either politically or religiously, without warranting death as retribution.

“Grab a book sometimes, educate yourselves, and grow up, then through a correct platform, have a healthy debate with the people who disagree with you. Hiding behind your anonymity to terrorise a woman is the action of both a criminal and a coward.

“To Syerleena, woman-to-woman, I want you to know that I admire your courage and you shall not be alone in facing down these menacing threats. Stay strong in times of adversity and let your strength define you,” she added.

Syerleena lodged a police report after receiving an apparent death threat.

A note ‘Death awaits you!’ written in red ink was found in the mailbox of her service centre in Jalan Delima last Tuesday.

George Town OCPD Asst Comm Anuar Omar said they were investigating the case under Section 507 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation by anonymous communication.
