Congrats to Wong Kah Woh for proving he is without peer in ignorance

This is a response to Ipoh Timor MP Wong Kah Woh’s “Congrats to Ti Lian Ker for support of PAS-Umno pact” piece published by Malaysiakini on 16 Sep 2019

Congratulations to DAP State Secretary Wong Kah Woh who successfully exhibited a level of ignorance, unrivalled in scale and significance by anyone else in Malaysia.

After all, as the saying goes, ignorance is bliss.

DAP is a serial “PAS cohabitator” who despite announcing a public divorce with PAS continues to “cohabit” shamelessly in the Selangor state government. How can their Member of Parliament and State Secretary not be aware of this and behave like a bull in a  china shop in dishing out distorted political arguments.

One of the earliest political alliances PAS had formed was in 1990, with the now defunct Parti Melayu Semangat 46 (S46). An alliance, named Angkatan Perpaduan Ummah, which was mooted by DAP back then. Did Wong conveniently forget his own party’s history, or is it a case of factual ignorance?

Regardless of Wong’s disposition, DAP had benefited immensely from the pact formed by its coalition partner S46 with PAS by compromising itself to the Malay-Muslim centric pact. DAP who had been seen as “anti-Malay” and “anti-nationalist” managed to improve its standing amongst the Malay majority via their “political cohabitation” with PAS at a point of time when PAS was at it’s most extreme in intent and purpose.

Despite falling out with PAS almost immediately after the 1990 general elections when DAP Chairman (the late Karpal Singh) and then Secretary General  (Lim Kit Siang) lost and failed to retain their Chinese majority seats leading to the dissolution of the Gagasan Rakyat coalition. DAP has tasted their “forbidden fruit” when they have been chastising anything Malay and Islam but now getting a free ride and votes from PAS giving them an easy win over MCA in many mixed constituencies. DAP  had tasted the power of being able to entice Malay voters and in the last general election continue to “ cohabit” with BERSATU a Malay centric party and a metamorphosis of PERKASA (a Malay supremacy NGO of which BERSATU members are largely from.)

The ignorance in Wong is so strong that it not only allows him to deny the past of his party, but also enables the man to repudiate DAP’s present. Currently, DAP has formed the government alongside PPBM and Amanah; the former an offshoot of Umno and the latter an offshoot of PAS; both are practically entrenched within the confines of racial and religious politics that DAP claims to abhor.

By aligning itself to Bersatu and Amanah, is DAP “endorsing the alleged toxic politics of race and religion (of which DAP had for decades chastise MCA and MIC ) and abandoning their supposedly steadfast principles of not agreeing to any communal political party. Once again DAP abandoned their promises to the people of no communal politics.  Instead DAP upon forming the government adopted the “Malay first” rhetoric by acknowledging the need to recognise Malay sensitivity and supremacy on issues such as UEC recognition and local government elections etc.

Wong must not pretend that DAP has promised and failed to deliver their promises because for all 41 parliamentary seats, it is obvious they have not only compromised their promises to their supporters but had abandoned their principles and accept the Malay supremacy political rhetoric of BERSATU ! Today it is very obvious to any observer of Malaysian politics that DAP is nothing more than a giant doormat to the two much smaller parties.

In fact, Wong should abstain from pointing his finger on any matter pertaining to nation-building and integrity when he had undermined his own credibility by taking over the role as chairman of a government agency — the Sustainable Energy Development Authority of Malaysia (Seda) — despite still acting as the deputy chair of Public Accounts Committee (PAC).

By doing so, Wong has ignored and betrayed his coalition’s pledge to promote a non-communal and a more meritocratic government and their promise of being accountable, professional and transparent.
