Seeking answers: Wee arriving at the opening of the 14th Parliament.

THERE are 86 questions for the first Question Time session of the 14th Parliament today, mostly touching on the economy, finance, education, the Home Ministry as well as queries for the Prime Minister.

While no legislative Bills are currently listed, MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong has seven motions in the Order Paper, with topics ranging from Chinese education to the MRT3.

Motions by MPs are usually placed on the back of the Order Paper, which means government business like Bills take precedence.

Among others, the Ayer Hitam MP is urging the Education Ministry to immediately recognise the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) as promised in the Pakatan Harapan manifesto and for a systematic approach in the channelling of yearly and special funds to Chinese schools.

He also asked the Home Ministry to approve citizenship applications within three to six months and urged the Prime Minister to cancel the national car project and announce the terms for the yen loans from Japan.

Dr Wee, who is former Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, is also asking the Transport Ministry on ways to improve public transport use in the Klang Valley after the deferment of the MRT 3.

While Jerlun MP Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir will be firing the first query, Youth and Sports Minister Syed Saddiq Abdul Rahman may get a chance to reply to a question.

He is set to answer Question 6 by Mohd Shahar Abdullah (BN – Paya Besar) on the efforts taken to overcome urban migration by youths.

This is Syed Saddiq’s first term as MP as well as minister.

After the question and answer session, there will be a motion of thanks on the Royal Address – to be tabled by Datuk Johari Abdul (PKR – Sg Petani) – followed by debate.
