MCA Youth encourages dialogue with university student groups

On 30 June 2022, news outlets reported that 20 student groups, including representatives from Universiti Malaya (UM), International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), and Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), made a list of five demands for the government to address regarding the current price hikes of food supplies.

Due to a sharp increase in food prices, these students requested that the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) and the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) regulate the prices of university vendors' and cafeteria goods and food.

MCA Youth takes the demands of these university student groups seriously.

Undergraduates are a community that are still in university and do not have a regular source of income or none at all. They rely heavily on the low prices offered in canteens and cafeterias to pay for their daily meals.

As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, not only do students struggle with the challenges of daily living in the new normal, but also their studies, which require the high speed of the digital world, are significantly impacted.

According to previous reports, university students are also particularly susceptible to mental health risks as a result of their high levels of stress.

MCA Youth is dedicated to remaining open to discussions with all student organisations for their welfare and the greater good of the nation. We hope that university students and young adults will not give up easily and will always maintain a positive outlook on life.

As they are the future leaders of our nation, MCA Youth urges all university students to maintain their motivation and resiliency.

We are confident and hope that undergraduates will continue to think critically, analyse and scrutinise all issues they encounter with solid facts and data.

MCA finds it truly inspiring to see young adults imbued with patriotic values and aspirations, as well as concern for national, social, and economic issues.
