KUALA LUMPUR: Donations and expenses to support and sponsor the Blossom Arts Festival can be used to apply for tax exemptions, said Malaysian Chinese Culture and Arts Consultative Council chairman Datin Paduka Chew Mei Fun.

“We have received a letter from the Tourism and Culture Ministry that these donations and expenses can be used to apply for tax exemptions.

“This shows that our Government is supportive of the arts festival,” said Chew.

“We can help corporations which sponsor the Blossom Arts activities on their applications for tax exemption,” she said here yesterday.

Chew said she hoped more companies could support the festival.

“All the performers and associations taking part in the festival are passionate about promoting arts in the country.

“They need support from the corporations. With donations and sponsors, they will be able to show their talent without worrying too much about funding,” said Chew, who is also the festival’s organising chairman.

On the Blossom Arts Cup 24 Festive Drums Competition (Central Region) – to be held on Aug 30 at Wisma MCA – Chew said seven groups from Selangor and Kuala Lumpur would be competing.

The festival, which is being held throughout this month at Wisma MCA, also features shows and exhibitions by local and international artists and performers.
