Press statement by MCA Youth Pahang Secretary Sdri. Saw Yee Fung

Major breakthrough in campaign against abolition of death penalty: Penang Exco Phee Boon Poh signs petition against abolition of the death penalty!

I urge all PH leaders to emulate Penang DAP Exco Phee Boon Poh who has signed the signature campaign launched by MCA Youth opposing the proposal by the PH government to abolish the death penalty.

MCA Youth which had set up a counter at Cameron Highlands to enable people to place their signatures on the anti-abolition of the death penalty signature campaign had come across Exco Phee. After listening to MCA Youth's explanation and understanding the campaign's goals and missions, he did not hesitate to sign to support the campaign against the abolition of the death penalty.

DAP which has always supported the abolition of the death penalty, finally appears to have it's first elected representative who opposes the PH government's proposed abolition of the death penalty!

Phee is the first party member of DAP who is willing to listen to public opinion and signed to support the objections against abolishing the death penalty. This is commendable! However, this has already violated the position of PH. Whether Phee will be disciplined by DAP or PH is discouraged.

We urge the DAP and PH to not take any disciplinary action against Phee who supports justice. The oppositions to the abolition of the death penalty is the will of most people. We hope that Phee's just move this time can lead to actions by others who have not expressed similar a attitude out of fear. Party leaders and Parliamentarians should support the campaign against the abolition of the death penalty, pressure the government to withdraw the Bill on abolishing the death penalty, and instead, comfort the families of victims of murder, and allow the deceased to rest in peace.
