Barking outside but not a whimper within DAP, Wong Tack’s criticism just hot air



In criticising the decision to extend the operating licence of the Lynas Advanced Materials Plant (LAMP)  Bentong MP Wong Tack had claimed that the rare earth processing company had alluded that “lies, manipulations, misleading information and propaganda” among others led to the decision by the Ministry of Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change (Free Malaysia Today, 20 Feb 2020) and is thus covering for the latter.

However, he should address, ultimately, which was the authoritative body which approved the extension of Lynas’ licence? Are DAP Ministers really “equal” within the Cabinet?

Wong Tack blaming Lynas is an attempt at diverting attention away from DAP’s incompetence.

It was the Cabinet which criticised the extension of Lynas’ operating licence. DAP with its six Ministers in Cabinet, namely, Lim Guan Eng, Yeo Bee Yin, Anthony Loke, Teresa  Kok, Gobind Singh and M. Kulasegaran had all attended the Cabinet meeting. As the decision to extend the Lynas operating licence was approved by the Cabinet, DAP thus shares equal responsibility for the decision.

Although Wong Tack is an MP, it appears he dares to speak only outside the government system. He needs to be outspoken against the DAP Ministers and Deputy Ministers within the system too, lest his impassionate calls amount to nothing more than hot air.

Going by Wong Tack’s logic, if Lynas misled the public, doesn’t this reveal that the DAP supporting Lynas in Cabinet are similarly misleading the public? Why does Wong Tack not criticise any DAP Minister or name either one of them?

Wong Tack and DAP Minister must undertake pragmatic actions to implement their pre-general election promises to shut down the Lynas refinery. If this is not possible, then they should admit their failures and apologise!
