Penang DAP govt flounders: 10 years of performance worsens from "A" to "E"

MCA Youth Penang is in full agreement with the Citizens Awareness Chant Group (Chant) on its evaluation that the performance of the Penang state government under the leadership of DAP has plunged to “E.”

Since the Penang DAP government seized power 10 years ago, its administration of the Pearl of the Orient has left the state in mess ie never before flood ravages, mushrooming balding hills, plans for an environmentally destructive undersea tunnel, land reclamation, large swathes of land sales, environmental carnage and deviation in funding.

Chant NGO adviser Yan Lee pointed out that the Penang state government helmed by Lim Guan Eng has not in any appropriate responded to questions that affect the lives of Penangites. When DAP took power in 2008, they proclaimed a “CAT” government with its competency, accountability and transparency mantra. However, now as its second terms concludes, there certainly is no “CAT” administration.

Yan Lee also said that during the first three years of its first term, the DAP state government’s performance in Penang was an “A.” Gradually it fell to “B” and “C” in the fourth and fifth year of the first term. For the second term, its score is “D” in the first four years, and an “E” in the final term.

On the issue of “Botak Hill” ala Bukit Gambir, Guan Eng failed to inform what sort of actions the Penang state government has taken to remedy the severely cleared hillslopes. The current situation has jeopardised the safety of the local folks. The DAP-led Penang state government talks about a “Penang Green Council" but their actions run counter to it.

When Guan Eng visited the disaster-affected areas during the floods, he stated that the federal government had not allocated RM400 million to the state. As a result, they could do nothing about the floods. However, the Penang state government spent RM305 million on feasibility studies for the undersea tunnel. Unfortunately, these reports, of plans for the paired roads and detailed design study are not transparent.

MCA Deputy President Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong has persistently raised a series of questions related to the RM6.3billion undersea tunnel controversy, but Guan Eng has yet to give a substantive reply. He has repeatedly evaded and pushed such queries aside, and even provided hollow answers. He repeated his responses and sought to divert attention to distract one’s focus. Also, he does not at all dare to accept Dr Wee’s challenge to a debate.

Dr Wee Ka Siong will be a chief panelist in a public forum entitled “Political Talks on Penang’s Truth” regarding the RM6.3billion undersea tunnel scandal which will be held on Friday, 30 March 2018 at 7:30pm at Persatuan Tan Si Eng Chuan Tong, Jalan Kampung Paya, Kampung Paya, 12200 Butterworth. Members of the public keen to learn more about this controversy are most welcome to attend.
