Press statement by MCA Religious Harmony Bureau Secretary Chris Daniel Wong

Pakatan leaders contradict each other on UEC recognition

Irony is the word of the day. Politicians like to recycle old things. All of a sudden, DAP is speaking on behalf of Muhyiddin Yassin, who has a track record of not supporting the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC), not only now but way back in 1990s. Only a few days ago, Muhyiddin has made a new veiled threat that Pakatan will not support UEC and Perkasa, where Tun Mahathir was once a patron. They even threaten to declare a war against the government if UEC is being recognised.

Why is Teo Nie Ching speaking for Muhyiddin Yassin and Tun Mahathir when both of them were issuing such threats on behalf of Pakatan? Even the grand old man of DAP is nowhere to be seen and has remained silent in response to Muhyiddin’s war statement.

It is utterly shocking for Teo Nie Ching to say that DAP was not consulted before Muhyiddin has made such statement. In Pakatan Harapan, everyone should have understood the coalition’s common manifesto, why there are still those who fail to understand? It seems that they continually contradict each other in Pakatan.

In fact Teo Nie Ching should not correct Muhyiddin’s remarks or timidly hide behind her statement. It goes to show that none of them understood the pact’s common manifesto, and are sending mixed signal to the Chinese voters over this matter.

While Barisan Nasional (BN) is committed to resolving this issue, Dong Zhong should also relook their examination syllabus to ensure it adopts the basics of the national syllabus, so that UEC can be recognised.

Teo Nie Ching should stop stirring up old issue. Instead she should work with the BN Government to resolve it as soon as possible. Perhaps all Pakatan leaders from PPBM should be given a crash course to understand the party’s manifesto to avoid shooting each other in the future.
