CRSM aims to raise RM500,000 to help 5,000 flood-hit families

Taking the initiative after the yearly monsoon rain wreaked floods across Malaysia and displaced thousands, the Crisis Relief Squad of MCA (CRSM) committed 500 volunteers and raised RM200,000 to the cause of disaster relief.

In the beginning, as the flood conditions worsened when the rain remained relentless, CRSM poured all our manpower into helping out the evacuation process, and resources into purchasing dry ration, daily necessities and anti-pandemic supplies.

Since then, the flood situation in Peninsular Malaysia had vastly improved. While cleaning up flood damages, our volunteers noticed much of the personal belongings, furniture and electrical appliances of victims were destroyed by the floodwater.

Our objective is to raise RM500,000 in resources to help at least 5,000 families rebuild their home after the flood. Anyone with the charitable will to help can donate in the form of money, or supplies including mattresses, pillows, blankets, gas stoves, rice cookers, water kettles and electronic appliances.

Today, we will be dropping off our first batch of care packages in the severely-hit regions in Pahang, as we make our way south to our next target destination — Johor.

Additionally, we have started monitoring the flood situation in East Malaysia, manned and ready to mobilise our volunteers and fundraising machinery at a moment’s notice to assist the disaster relief effort there.

I want to express my utmost appreciation for two businesspersons responsible for donating RM130,000 in value so far: Mr Teoh Kok Liang, the Director of Nosigner Fashion Consultant Sdn Bhd, who supplied 4,000 pieces of clothing worth RM80,000; and Mr Kieren K.Sing of KJSS Resources who sponsored RM50,000 of necessities.

Lastly, I want to remind all our volunteers on the ground to adhere to the Covid-19 SOP: maintain social distancing and put on a face mask at all times. Always be mindful of your personal safety and look out for the people around you. Remember to set a good example by taking great care of your personal hygiene and the cleanliness in your immediate vicinity.
