Press statement by MCA Spokesperson Mike Chong Yew Chuan
Rather than just mocking, YB Steven Sim Chee Keong should assist in vaccination programme

Instead of spending time belittling Minister of Transport Datuk Seri Ir Dr Wee Ka Siong as ‘claiming credit’ on the arrival of the first shipment of Pfizer BioNTech vaccines, DAP Bukit Mertajam MP YB Steven Sim Chee Keong should call upon the masses to register for the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme.
Regardless of which government department or agency one is in, the onus is on that person to perform his duties and responsibilities for the nation and its citizens. These are simple truths which YB Steven Sim can pick up. Only those who want to claim credit daily will assume that others would want to follow him, and thus desire to claim credit in a similar manner, or, attempt to claim credit with their obligations and responsibilities in order to score personal political mileage.
As an MP, rather than ridiculing a Cabinet Minister, YB Steven Sim should set aside political affiliation, undertake pragmatic approaches and help disseminate information on vaccination matters. At the very least, he should explain to the masses on the advantages of receiving the inoculation to ensure a smooth completion of the vaccination plan.
Meanwhile, a word of thanks should be extended to YB Steven Sim for calling upon leaders from all walks of life to “play our role to help educate the public on vaccination and help to facilitate the whole process to ensure successful implementation.” Of course, these must include all DAP elected representatives. Instead of making unnecessary snide remarks on the delivery of the vaccines, it is better for YB Steven Sim to emphasise that he will assist the federal government to ensure that the national immunisation programme in our country proceeds smoothly.
