RAUB: The naming of a road at an industrial park in China as "Lebuh Kuantan" proves that Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad was wrong, said Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai.

The naming of the road took place on Wednesday (March 21), at the China-Malaysia Qinzhou Industrial Park (CMQIP) in Nanning, in Guangxi province, in southern China. CMQIP’s sister park is the Malaysia-China Kuantan Industrial Park (MCKIP) in Kuantan.

The MCA president said this showed that Dr Mahathir, the Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia chairman, had not told the truth previously.

"Dr Mahathir said Malaysia was selling its sovereignty to China for naming one of the roads in MCKIP as 'Jalan Qinzhou', with the road sign in Chinese.

"But he neglected one important point — that these parks are government-to-government 'two countries, twin parks,'" said Liow, who is also Transport Minister and Bentong MP.

He added that Dr Mahathir's remarks on the Jalan Qinzhou road sign at MCKIP being in Chinese proved that he was toying with racial sentiments.

Liow was speaking to reporters after launching the Discover Raub carnival at Guan Yin Temple at Jalan Tras here.

The event, organised by MCA vice-president Datin Paduka Chew Mei Fun, is aimed at promoting Raub's hidden treasures to visitors.
