GEORGE TOWN: Penang MCA Youth criticised the state government’s performance over the past 10 years which had allegedly “left Penang in a mess.”

Its chairman Datuk Michael Lee said Penang under their administration was ravaged by floods while balding hills mushroomed.

He said issues such as plans for an environmentally destructive undersea tunnel, land reclamation, large swathes of land sales and environmental carnage were prevalent.

Concurring with a recent evaluation made by a non-governmental organisation, he said Penang MCA Youth is in full agreement with the Citizens Awareness Chant Group (Chant) on its evaluation that the performance of the state government under the leadership of DAP has plunged from “Grade A to Grade E”.

He claimed that the state government failed to inform the public on its actions to remedy the severely cleared hillslopes, a matter which could jeopardise the safety of the locals contrary to their CAT (competency, accountability and transparency) mantra.

Lee added that the state government claimed that they could do nothing about the flood without the RM400mil Federal allocation but they were able to spend RM305mil on the feasibility studies for the undersea tunnel.

“The matter has been persistently raised by MCA deputy president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

“The challenge to debate the matter has been turned down by Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Lee said the public are invited to learn more about the controversy at a forum entitled “Political Talks on Penang’s Truth” regarding the RM6.3bil undersea tunnel scandal where Dr Wee will be the chief panellist.

The forum will be held on March 30 at 7.30pm at the Persatuan Tan Si Eng Chuan Tong in Jalan Kampung Paya, Butter-worth.
