Press statement by Wanita MCA Sabah Chairperson Dr Pamela Yong

Softening the outrage against Mohamaddin, Shafie must not underestimate the rakyat’s wisdom

Dato’ Seri Shafie Apdal, as the President of Parti Warisan Sabah and head of the Sabah caretaker government, should remove Warisan Supreme Council member Dato’ Mohamaddin Ketapi from the party, besides instructing him to withdraw his candidacy from the Sabah state elections; failing which, the Segama candidate’s outrageous remarks will be construed as the position of Warisan.

Although Shafie has apologised to the security forces, the next of kin of the slain police and soldiers and the public are aggrieved and offended by Mohamaddin’s likening of the Lahad Datu incursion as “sandiwara.” Deeming the former Tourism, Arts and Culture’s slur as “spontaneous” and “misunderstood” shows that Shafie’s apology, similar to Mohamaddin’s, is not sincere.

The video clip which went viral unequivocally express the meaning in Mohamaddin’s speech. There are no “twists” or “misunderstanding” of his words. Why does Shafie shield Mohamaddin’s “apology”? Please do not underestimate the wisdom of the public, and especially Sabah voters.

The rakyat will never forget the major risks and huge sacrifices which our Malaysian personnel in blue and green undertook in order to defend our nation’s sovereignty, where 10 of their lives were unnecessarily lost in the conflict. Particularly for those stationed at remote coastal areas in Sabah, besides being ready to answer the call of duty at anytime, they also spend long hours and days separated from their families. But the Warisan Segama candidate has reduced all their efforts and contributions to mere “sandiwara.” Denigration of any sort, especially in safeguarding our nation and citizens where fatalities were incurred, is simply inexcusable.
