Press statement by MCA Secretary-General Datuk Chong Sin Woon

In response to the viral photograph on social media which shows a letter to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong by Barisan Nasional Chairman Dato’ Sri Ahmad Zahid, claiming that Barisan Nasional supports Pakatan Harapan Chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as Prime Minister, I wish to emphasize that the claims in the letter are completely out of line with the decision made by the BN Supreme Council in both meetings on 22 November.

In both meetings, the BN Supreme Council had resolved that BN will not support anyone as the Prime Minister at this moment.

In last night’s BN Supreme Council Meeting, MCA and other BN component parties were questioning why Dato’ Sri Ahmad Zahid had gone against BN’s resolution. At first, Dato’ Sri Ahmad Zahid was in denial, but he admitted afterwards when evidence was produced.

Dato’ Sri Ahmad Zahid had gone against the collective decision by the BN Supreme Council yesterday, and did not communicate BN’s resolution correctly to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

MCA believes that Dato’ Sri Ahmad Zahid is no longer fit to continue leading Barisan Nasional, and we call for his resignation from his position as Barisan Nasional Chairman, to be replaced by Datuk Mohamad Hassan as proposed during the BN Supreme Council Meeting last night.
