KOTA KINABALU: Some 2,000 copies of books were delivered to libraries at Chinese schools here by Luyang MCA assemblyman Hiew King Cheu.

Smong the recipients were SK (C) Anglo Chinese, SK Sri Gaya, Sekolah Tinggi Kota Kinabalu and SM Shan Tao.

Hiew said the books were carefully selected not only for the students also for parents.

“Fewer people read books nowadays because of the wide use of the Internet.

“In order to sustain the reading habit, it is necessary to encourage students and their parents to read more books,” he added.

Hiew noted that many schools had a good collection of books but the habit of reading should be further encouraged.

“It is good to know that there are schools that promote the habit by dedicating the first half hour just for book-reading ,” he said.

Hiew assured that he would continue to assist schools in Kota Kinabalu to get more good books.

“If there is any specific need of books, the school can always contact me or my office,” he added.
