KUALA LUMPUR: A forum exploring the development trends of culture and arts in Malaysia and China will be held at Wisma MCA this Saturday.

The “Belt and Road” Malaysia-China Culture and Arts Forum is organised as part of the Blossom Arts Festival Malaysia (BAFM) 2017.

Malaysia’s very own Chinese ink painting master Dr Cheah Thien Soong will be among the four speakers at the event.

He will speak on Southeast Asian elements in Chinese ink painting, while Xiamen Minnan Cultural Research Council director Chen Geng will shed light on new discoveries in Minnan (Hokkien) culture from archaeological angles.

US-based Chinese cultural scholar Yin Taiwu will elaborate on the philosophies behind Chinese ancient arts.

Contemporary Malaysian artist CN Liew, meanwhile, will scrutinise the Nyonya culture through the appreciation and evaluation of Straits Chinese porcelain.

Malaysian Chinese Culture and Arts Consultative Council president Datin Paduka Chew Mei Fun said a highlight of the event is the on-the-spot free evaluation of treasures by Yu Wensheng.

“It is a rare opportunity to have a renowned evaluator from China to take a closer look at the treasures collected by Malaysian collectors.

“Those curious to know if their collections are genuine or not can take advantage of this session,” she said.

The forum, jointly organised by the Malaysia-China Friendship Association, Xinhuanet (Malaysia) and Zheng He-Duo Yun Xuan Art Gallery, will be held on the third floor of Wisma MCA at 9.30am.

For the evaluation of treasures, registration has to be done on site at 9.30am with the evaluation to take place after lunch.
