Press statement by Sabah State Elections Steering Committee Chairperson Dr Pamela Yong

Covid-19 test results of MCA leaders negative

As soon as it was discovered that UMNO Information Chief Shahril Hamdan had been tested positive for COVID-19, measures were undertaken to send all MCA leaders who were in close contact with him to undergo test screening. Fortunately, all the test results came back negative.

During the campaign period for the Sabah state elections, MCA has complied with all the SOPs and regulations set by the government, including practising physical distancing. Therefore, we urge all parties to stop spreading fake news.

That said, it is understood that while the election campaign is on and is at its peak, all our campaigners, candidates and party leaders are reminded and strongly advised that at NO point must the SOP set by KKM be compromised and that their well being and that of the members of the public must NOT be put at risk.

MCA further reinforces that the health and safety of our candidates, leaders, party machinery and the general public are at the utmost priority, and that we will continue to take steps to ensure compliance of the SOPs at the highest level to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
