THOSE working and living in Kuchai Lama, Kuchai Entrepreneurs Park, Seri Petaling and Taman Salak South should brace themselves for major traffic diversion from Nov 27.

This is due to the realignment of lanes by highway concessionaire Besraya (M) Sdn Bhd at the Kuchai Lama intersection in Kuchai Entrepreneurs Park.

Besraya will also change the traffic lights system from four-phase to two-phase at the Kuchai intersection.

This means that traffic flow from Seri Petaling and Jalan Kuchai Lama towards the Besraya highway will be closed.

Motorists from Seri Petaling heading towards Kuala Lumpur have to make a U-turn at the Kuchai Entrepreneurs junction (Kuchai traffic lights).

Those heading towards Putrajaya from Seri Petaling and Jalan Kuchai Lama have to make a U-turn at the Salak Jaya junction (Taman Sungei Besi traffic lights).

Seputeh MCA vice-chairman Banie Chin said the changes were necessary to ease congestion at the Kuchai Lama interchange.

“We have many complaints of heavy traffic coming from Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya.

“The traffic lights at the interchange have always been slow with a tailback stretching over 1km daily, especially during peak hours.

“This diversion will help facilitate the free flow of traffic even though the travelling distance will be longer,” Chin said.

He added they would give the new traffic system a chance before making a decision on whether to proceed with other methods.

Taman Salak Selatan Residents Association president G.P. Sivam said a two-week period was sufficient to see whether it would work.

“If it doesn’t, then we will have to rethink a new strategy. The congestion here has become worse because of development and more cars coming into these townships,” Sivam added.

Besraya will announce the changes on social media as well as putting up banners at the site to inform motorists. For details, call the Besraya hotline at 1-800-88-0999.
