Press statement by MCA Youth Chairman Senator Datuk Chong Sin Woon

10+6 SJKC construction plan has commenced; the progress will speed up with cooperation from all parties

If all the state governments and local authorities were to stop playing any political tactics, and put aside differences, then the federal government’s newly announced 10+6 Chinese primary schools (SJKC) construction plan will commence and be in full operation soon.

In fact, Deputy Education Minister II Dato’ Kamalanathan Panchanathan had mentioned that in the formation of the Budget 2018 Committee of the Ministry of Education (MOE), the government cannot promise on the construction completion deadline, due to some unforeseen circumstances, especially those related to the jurisdictions of the state governments.

Following the announcement made, MCA being led by our Deputy President Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong had commenced the school establishment process, and started various preparation works, and also received full cooperation and support from the developers involved. This ranges from land identification, expert assistance, formation of school committees and board of directors, whatever can be done within MCA’s power were completed.

At the same time, MCA has tried to synchronise whatever procedures that can be done simultaneously, so that the construction of SJKCs can speed up and the schools can operate soon. All these developments including reporting to the MOE’s EPRU, enabling the relevant units to better plan for placement of teaching staff.

But MCA is concerned over what is beyond its control, whereby certain quarters have politicised education matter to gain political mileage. This include placing all kinds of obstacles before the construction plan. Therefore I would like to urge these ‘parties’ to cease their ‘evil plots’, and put aside all political differences, so that these 16 SJKC can be built and operate soon, and more children can benefit from them.
