Flattering newfound affection for UMNO: Classic DAP move valuing power over principles

When DAP Sekinchan Assemblyman and Selangor Speaker Ng Suee Lim expressed an eagerness to go hand in glove with Umno — the party he and his lot had antagonised for decades — really underscores how in the light of a possibility to nab power, DAP is unafraid to compromise, butcher and bury their ‘principles’; this is classic DAP.

Ng Suee Lim’s recent remarks and stance are hardly surprising, they are consistent with Perak DAP Chairman Nga Kor Ming’s earlier plot to machinate his ambitions with Umno. Timeserving and completely lacking in the integrity departmental; DAP would launch a cacophony of grandiose tirades and scathing insults against Umno for one minute, right before they sell out and pull off a perfect one-eighty grovelling at the boots of their nemesis.

In a bald-faced (but no less impressive) feat to disguise the abuse of voters’ confidence to satiate their greed for political power, they began peddling a trumped-up story that their disposition to work with anyone was for the sake of a “multi-racial, strong and stable government”. Still, the shrewd could see people are taken for a ride, and would not let that distract them from the inevitable realisation that DAP would shift their positioning to wherever best serves their personal objectives.

Coinciding with their interest to milk the Chinese community for every vote they got, DAP had relentless blasted Umno for decades, to the point of opposing for the sake of opposition. After monopolising Chinese votes, DAP moved on to Phase Two of their stratagem: abuse the trust of the Chinese as political leverage to broker a self-serving deal with the boogeyman.

It wasn’t that long ago that DAP would demonise the cooperation between Umno and MCA in order to paint a sanctimonious picture for themselves just to win elections. Nowadays, DAP is seemingly a shadow of their former selves; ramping up their propaganda machinery to flatter and pave the path to work with Umno.

This is the signature double-dealing political manoeuvre of DAP. When the Pakatan Rakyat coalition collapsed, DAP immediately bared their fangs against their former allies PAS. They condemned PAS as extremists and vowed loudly to break apart away from the Islamist party, yet to remain in their precarious seats of power, they selectively chose to continue go along with PAS in the Selangor State Assembly — evident DAP have no qualms about compromising their principles or betraying their supporters if it means there are political and personal gains to be made.

Make no mistake about DAP: they will stay with a ‘principle’ as long as it benefits them. Many DAP politicians are unequivocally textbook opportunists. It will always be a case of power-over-principle for them. It has always been.
