HAVING been in public service for more than 30 years, MCA Public Services and Complaints Department head Datuk Seri Michael Chong said it is important for candidates of the upcoming general election to focus on the people and not get into arguments.

When asked about the party’s chances in the next elections, Michael said as long as the candidates are aware of the needs and wants of the people, their chances of winning will be higher.

“I’ve been in public service for more than 30 years and I’ve noticed that people want some attention. It is very important to get in touch with the people.

“People judge us based on our services. For those who want to be candidates, help the people.

“To the voters, if you see someone is helping you, whether it’s the opposition or ruling government, please do support them,” he told reporters after giving ang pow and goodie bags to the poor old folk at Taman Medan Pusing on Sunday.

Michael said there are some politicians out there getting embroiled in arguments and they end up neglecting the people.

‘I’ve met many people over the years and all they want is to see their representatives, especially politicians, helping them with their queries or needs.

“Politicians are elected by the people and it’s their duty to serve them,” he said.

In the last general election, MCA won seven parliamentary seats out of the 37 parliamentary seats they contested. As for the state seats, the party contested 90 seats and won only 11.
