JOHOR BARU: Datuk Seri Dr Hou Kok Chung (pic) will focus on bread and butter issues to woo voters in the Tebrau parliamentary seat.

The MCA vice president, whose candidacy for this seat in the coming general election was announced by MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai in November last year, said the signs he received in the area over the last few months have been encouraging.

"The support I received from the ground, especially from the rakyat I met is improving. The public here understand that I have been working hard to try to know the issues affecting them," he added.

Dr Hou said this when met after a dialogue session between the Mount Austin factories association and the police here on Wednesday (March 21).

He stressed that issues such as crime would be among the matters he will touch upon as part of his campaign strategies during the election.

"The rakyat's concern is our concern. This dialogue session will help the police and the respective parties to understand one another, and come up with a proper solution in fighting crime.

"To serve the rakyat better, we have to understand them first," he said adding that there would be more dialogue sessions for the Tebrau seat in the near future.

Dr Hou pointed out that Tebrau was a big parliamentary area with 120,000 voters, a jump of 30,000 from the last general election.

"From our studies, a big chunk of voters here are still on the fence. They are undecided who they will vote for and this group is important for us to be close to.

"We have to build up our support and be seen to the public, as well as contribute to the area to win the hearts of voters here," he added.
