Press statement by MCA Central Committee Member Lau Chin Kok

As the Unity Government works towards economic recovery, Teng Chang Khim needs to safeguard nation's image and good Malaysia-China relations

In questioning the participation of the MCA President Datuk Seri Ir Dr Wee Ka Siong as part of the Prime Minister’s delegation during the latter’s official visit to China, Selangor Investment, Industry, Trade and, Small and Medium Industries Exco Datuk Teng Chang Khim comes across as lacking professionalism and maturity.

As the DAP State Assemblyman for Bandar Baru Klang, Chang Khim should also be proud that Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim has successfully secured investment commitments totaling RM170 billion from China.

Unfortunately, not only did Chang Khim fail to acknowledge the achievements of the Unity Government, his speculations and allegations suggest attempts to undermine it, owing to a narrow political agenda.

Any official visit by any head of government certainly requires months of meticulous planning and arrangements. Hence, Ka Siong’s presence is no coincidence. The party President has explained that his travel expenses were borne by himself and not even one sen was funded by taxpayers. The same applies to other MCA leaders who also paid for their own expenses.

Chang Khim is welcome to refer to his DAP comrades who participated in the delegation to obtain an accurate picture before drawing any narrow conclusions that could affect the party, coalition or government that he supports.

With an open mind and maturity, Chang Khim would have displayed qualities of a leader willing to work as a team.
