Press statement by MCA Selangor State Liaison Chairman Dato’ Ng Chok Sin

Selangor officials detained for alleged corruption should be suspended from duties

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) recently arrested a total of five individuals including a district officer and two former municipal council presidents (YDPs). According to reports, the case involves projects worth tens of millions of Ringgit in at least 4 districts in Selangor since 2012.

If the Selangor Pakatan administration is one of integrity and accountability, it should suspend the suspected officials from their positions until after the investigations are complete and the appropriate action taken against the wrongdoers.

From press reports, this power abuse has been ongoing for quite some time, and it is not a new incident. The amount involved is not little either. As an advanced state, and being self-acclaimed “transparent”, the Selangor PH Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari should  suspend the suspected individuals under the state’s jurisdiction, not only to facilitate investigations by relieving them of their responsibilities, but also as a warning to others who may be tempted to accept bribes.
