MCA Helps Strengthen Bilateral Relations and Regional Cooperation

MCA urges the Unity Government to focus on strengthening Malaysia’s image and position on the international stage. Likewise, the Prime Minister’s official visits to Cambodia and China are very significant and can create many new opportunities. Cambodia is an ASEAN country with good bilateral relations with Malaysia, while China has been one of our most important and strategic trading partners.

MCA has always played the role of building bridges between Malaysian and China. This can be seen in MCA’s involvement in supporting and assisting Tun Razak’s efforts until the establishment of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and China in 1974. For the record, Malaysia was also one of the earliest ASEAN countries to establish diplomatic relations with China.

For the sake of the people and the nation, MCA is committed to continue supporting the Unity Government in strengthening bilateral ties with China, especially in terms of economic and educational cooperation. Based on our experience and the strong relationships we have built throughout the years, MCA is confident in attracting more foreign investors to Malaysia to aid rebuilding the post-pandemic global economy downturn.

*Increase Allocation and Reinforce Wisma Putra as “Diplomatic Outpost” of Malaysia MADANI*

As a former diplomat, I am concerned for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; hence, I propose that the Unity Government increase allocation for the Ministry in order to reinforce the direction of Malaysia’s foreign policies. If we consider the national budget which was tabled in the Parliament recently, with RM971 million allocation for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it is quite difficult for the Ministry and its 105 representative offices abroad to operate effectively.

Besides that, the devaluation of the Ringgit in many countries and global inflation also makes it difficult for diplomats to carry out their assignment to promote Malaysia and strengthen ties with other countries.
