Press Statement by MCA Deputy President Dato’ Dr Mah Hang Soon

Should the rakyat stay silent like DAP Ministers?

Recently, Primary Industries Minister Teresa Kok released a press statement that suggested that the six DAP ministers had been doing the right thing all along by playing mute, and encouraged all minorities to stay quiet like them. On the surface, it is to “take the big picture into consideration”, but practically, she wants minorities to turn the other cheek after Education Minister Dr Maszlee Malik played the dreaded race card on the matriculation quota controversy.

It is disheartening that Teresa Kok not only refrains from lifting a finger to defend the minorities or have the courage to take a stand against Dr Maszlee’s bigotry, now she blames it on the public, claiming it is the people who are “tearing the society apart” by acting “emotional” and “oversensitive”. This is a solid example of how DAP had a change of agenda after rising into a position of power.

I find that there is a need to point out that the actual “big picture” here is the matter of principle, that if our government is knowingly backing the Education Minister’s statement that had clearly incited racial hatred, and acknowledging his claim that job requirements in the private sector are a kind of discrimination.

From Teresa Kok’s response, I believe she had made abundantly clear that Pakatan Harapan will continue to ignore the voices of the minorities and implement increasingly racialised policies. The vision for a New Malaysia had all but dissipated.
