Press statement by MCA Secretary-General Datuk Chong Sin Woon

Lacking in political views, vision, and thought, Karmaine has little to offer for Tanjung Piai

The purpose of Tanjung Piai’s by-election is not only to provide check and balance to the current Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir and PPBM, but also to elect a candidate that can benefit the people of the constituency. Karmaine Sardini, PPBM’s candidate appears to be lacking in political views and vision, while his thoughts are far from the pulse of the Rakyat; thus, what does he bring to the table?

A by-election differs from a general election in that it is not a vote for the government but a vote for the best candidate. Thus, voters take into consideration the qualities of each candidates, in this case, BN’s Datuk Seri Wee Jeck Seng or PH’s Karmaine.

Throughout the campaigning period, Karmaine did not mention his views for the nation’s policy and lacked opinions regarding the future developments of Tg Piai. During ceramah’s on the ground, Karmaine even avoided interviews from the media and seems only to be a puppet for Pakatan Harapan.

Besides, from Karmaine commenting that palm oil producers should be grateful for the RM1000 incentive, to the Minister of Finance Lim Guan Eng proposing to appoint Deputy Minister of Defence Liew Chin Tong to help Karmaine communicate with the Chinese community shows that the candidate is not in tune to the people’s suffering and is not prepared to work for Tg Piai.

Contesting a seat requires one to be sharp on political views, vision, and sharing the voters’ interest close to heart. If Karmaine remains lackadaisical in his campaign, he simply does not deserve the voters’ trust, or the chance to serve the people in Tg Piai.
