JOHOR BARU: MCA will not rush to select of candidates for the 14th General Election, including for the hot Gelang Patah parliamentary seat.

Deputy party president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong said the approach was a realistic one and better than counting one's eggs before they hatch.

He said MCA was unlike the Opposition who kept announcing the seats they wanted to win and that they wanted to "conquer Johor".

"The Opposition can say they want to win 10 seats, 26 seats and so on. We will do the work first before we talk about winning," he said, adding that the announcement will be made when the time is right.

"There are some seats that have more than one candidate choice and there are seats where I don't even need to mention names, people already know who will be the candidate," he said after attending Southern University College's 26th convocation ceremony here on Sunday.

"It will be a good mix of candidates and in Johor, we traditionally change candidates (each general election) to allow for rejuvenation and to inject new blood," he said.
