Cease practice of breeding political frogs: Reveal evidence if graft really permeates

In recent days, more and more Members of Parliament from the opposition bloc have expressed their support for PMX Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim. Although any backing for the premier or the Unity Government is always welcome as it contributes towards political stability and the rakyat’s interests being prioritised, any democratic system should have a strong opposition to serve as a check and balance against the government. This is necessary to prevent any dictatorship or an autocracy from emerging which results in the interests of citizens being compromised.
Yesterday, 8 Nov 2023, Jeli MP YB Zahari Kechik became the fourth MP from Bersatu to declare his support for PMX. This follows the footsteps of Kuala Kangsar MP Dato' Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid; Labuan MP Dato' Suhaili Abdul Rahman; and Gua Musang MP YB Mohd Azizi Abu Naim.
More worrisome – allegations prevail that some MPs were promised “rewards” should they declare their support for PMX. These accusations are serious and tarnish the reputation of PMX and the Malaysia Madani government. If there are grounds for such accusations, evidence must be presented immediately.
The rakyat’s aspiration for public accountability by political figures requires PMX to come forward and provide an explanation to rebuff such allegations. This is particularly expedient as the accusation of “reward” flung by Perikatan Nasional (PN) could blemish Dato’ Seri Anwar’s image.
Moreover, PMX has built a reputation of himself as a graft-busting leader, even granting the ‘green-light’ to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to investigate any Minister or government official believed to be involved in corruption.
Additionally, questions arise regarding the Anti-Party Hopping law: Are the Constitutional amendments weak and ineffective against containing the ‘breeding of political frogs’? The continued emergence of ‘political frogs’ indicate that the rakyat are conveniently used as a front to satisfy the personal desires of a certain few parties who seem incapable of living without office and power.
